Executive Committee Monthly Update
Following some recent feedback from you (the membership), the Executive Committee intend to provide short monthly updates on the work it does behind the scenes.
Before I do that I thought it would be useful to explain who the Executive Committee are, what we do and briefly summarise some of the projects we have completed over recent years.
The Executive Committee (EC)
In a nutshell, the management of the club is entrusted to the EC who are elected at the club's AGM, held before the start of each season. The club constitution details how the EC is formed and how it conducts the club's business. The EC are current members of the club who voluntarily give up their time to run the club.
Details of who sit on the EC is set out on our website:

Following on from the note that was sent out at the start of the season from the committee, we feel it is time to give you all an update on the current position of the club.
As I type, with one league game remaining, the 1st XI still has a chance of promotion and the 2nd XI ideally need a victory in their last game to ensure that relegation is avoided. Our Sunday XI have been challenging well in the North Herts Sunday League Div 1 - in and around the top of table all season.
Cricket week was a great success and gave a much-needed boost to the finances, with bar takings of just over £5,000 for the week. I think everyone who was around would agree it was a fantastic week for the club.
The season so far has been a real challenge for the club on and off the field. Availability at the start of May gave great hope for a positive season, unfortunately we have not been able to sustain the playing availability week on week and as a result the league removed our 3rd XI due to several concessions.
Off the field there has been plenty going on to ensure cricket has been readily available, with a lot of work behind the scenes. The changing rooms and shower area repairs were completed by the end of May which allowed the use of those facilities during the season, however the works carried out swallowed up a significant proportion of the club’s financial reserves.
I don’t want to sound downbeat, as there is a lot of positivity looking forwards, but our financial situation is at a level where very close management is needed to ensure we can continue to operate and invest in improving the club for years to come. We are a private member non-profit making organisation and we are aware that we rely heavily on our members and the goodwill of many to ensure the smooth running of the club. We all need to pull together as one to support all ventures by the club to help improve our current position. We have a good mixture of people currently on our committee who are all committed to making our club the best it can possibly be.
We have just signed up to a project called Easy funding and I ask everyone to join up: www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/cockfosters-cricket-club - many online items you may purchase generates a donation to the club and could be a great opportunity for the club to generate funds without any extra cost to members.
We held a very successful quiz night a few weeks ago and there is another planned for this Friday 6th September along with further nights on 4th October and 8th November which is a great opportunity to keep the club open and vibrant. We have the end of season awards night on the horizon - date to be confirmed – which will be another reason to celebrate everything Cockfosters.
So, I think that brings everything up to date. If anyone has any question or suggestions, please feel free to reach out to any members of the committee.
Thank you.
Neil Hale on behalf of the Cockfosters CC Exec Committee
